They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

[Mark 14:32-36 NIV]

Abba … “Daddy!”  One-word theology.

This impressive mosque covers the presumed site of Solomon’s Temple.  It shelters a large rock outcropping, said to be that on which Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac and from which Muhammad began his Night Journey to Heaven.  Thus it is a holy site to all three major monotheistic religions.

The Way of Sorrows, or Via Dolorosa.  Since it’s still Friday at home as I begin this day, I’ll have little difficulty imagining that long-ago Good Friday when my Master stumbled down this path for me.

“No greater love.”

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher.  Built over the sites identified as Golgotha where He was crucified, and the nearby tomb (which this holy-of-holies surrounds).  There will be hordes of us tourists, unfortunately.  And yet I expect the awe.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: `He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ “

[Matthew 28:5-7 NIV]

“Do not be afraid.”

It always begins His kairos messages.
