Stunning scenery which has been compared to moonscapes: that’s the Wadi Rum. Lawrence of Arabia was shot here.
Post trip note: One of the craziest rides and longest laughs of my entire life occurred here. At the end of a paved road our tour bus emptied us into open jeeps—each with a driver and 4-5 of us tourists. The experienced drivers and their totally unprepared passengers took off at breakneck speed across the uneven desert floor. Within micro-seconds each of us grabbed whatever jeep-part we could to keep from flying out of the open vehicle. Sheer surprise and the startle-factor immediately began a group laugh that was hilarious and sustained for at least ten minutes. I’ve never been so exhausted from laughing. The “Lawrence of Arabia” specific site we were taken to see is long forgotten, but the memory of ten incredible minutes of uncontrollable hilarity among “members of the genteel class” lingers forever.
